Working With The Old Order Amish
Our Process

INTERNET & CELL PHONES NOT INCLUDED!

You won't see table saws, chop saws, or other electrically operated tools on the traditional Old Order Amish job site. These true craftsmen follow cultural traditions to build every Fred's Shed structure using chain saws, hammer and nails, and tools powered with gas sources.

So what does this mean for you?

Since we work directly with our local Old Order Amish team to build your custom structure, Fred cannot communicate your structure specs through the convenience of emails or phone calls. Once Fred finalizes your order, he personally drives the paperwork several miles to the builders so he can discuss your specs with them. Only then can they proceed to build your custom structure exactly as you've asked. Have changes? Yep, he'll drive back out again to communicate updates.

Your Process

Determine What Type Of Structure You Need

How Will Your Structure Be Used?

There are endless possibilities for your structure so be sure to think about your current and future needs. Perhaps you need a place to store your lawn and garden tools now, but later you'd like to convert your structure into a playhouse, studio, or work shop. Don't forget about your animals too! Plan ahead and you'll be happy you did!

To help you decide, we've grouped structures into 3 main "purpose" categories: Functional, Recreational & Business, and Animal Shelters.

Size Matters!

Try to plan for any items you may need to add to your structure in the future. Maybe your push mower is fine for now, but your goal is to have a ride-on mower in a couple years. Somehow, we always seem to need more space than what we have!*

Also, think about whether you'd like to repurpose your structure later and what that might look like. Would it have a porch or loft space, for example? Adding such items now is easier and less expensive than adding them later.

*Note: Be sure to evaluate the space you have on your property and any obstacles that may be in the path of delivery. Permits, if required, are the responsibility of the customer.

Endless Customization!

Every structure includes basic specs, but you can personalize yours for more aesthetic appeal or more functionality depending on your needs. Add windows, change the roof style, or put in loft space. The options are endless so if you don't see something in our choices, just ask!
